Melodic hardcore band Being As An Ocean commissioned me to create a vinyl gate-fold for their first full-length album. They requested the artwork include a deer to play off the album's title "Dear G-d…".
I spent an afternoon on my bedroom floor with a deer skull and rays gleaming through my window, twisting and turning the bone in the dusty light. I wanted these images to convey a sleepy and romantic sense of abstract melancholy reminiscent of the band's dark and perplexing musical sound. I photographed several angles and explorations of the skull and overlaid kaleidoscope-like textures of light fractures from a crystal onto the images in post. All of the artwork was finalized in black and white to add to the overall ethereal feel of the piece.
